San Antonio reports that illegal dumping of construction and demolition debris (shingle, drywall, lumber, bricks, concrete and siding) is one of the most costly problems facing San Antonio. Please recycle all shingle waste, it is the right thing to do.
Atascosa Recycling has met the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) standards for recycled asphalt shingles.
Atascosa Recycling is "Green". Take advantage of lower costs by recycling asphalt shingles with us. We only accept clean tear-off asphalt shingles. We do not take any trash, metal flashing, vents and wood.
Sour crude, the preferred binder for asphalt, is imported, refined and then transported from coastal refineries. Asphalt binder is a long way from the point of origin. Using locally sourced RAS at this point lowers demand of a non-renewable resource.
11 million tons of roofing shingle waste is discarded into landfill each year. This equates to 2,750,000 tons of asphalt binder each year. Here you can see the final product. Clean 3/8 minus TxDOT specification RAS being processed.
All RAS is not the same. Notice the nails in a local competitors product. This is more common than one would think. We are pre-approved through TxDOT, screen out all trash and test for asbestos.
